Katja Herbers has been a professional performer since she was a young girl. She is the daughter Vera Beths (violinist) and Werner Herbers (oboist). Herbers spent lots of the time in America as an infant, while they toured the world together. The woman she married was cellist Anner Bylsma while her father was remarried to costume designer Leonie Polak who introduced her theater. Her mother was a Canadian au pair and learned to speak Dutch German and English growing up. Herbers studied at the Ignatius Gymnasium of Amsterdam. She did her psychology degree from the University of Amsterdam. When she was studying psychology, she also attended De Trap theatre school. When she moved in New York she studied at the HB Studio.
